EU will continue with measures to reduce gas consumption
The energy ministers of the member states of the European Union (EU) met in Brussels.
The meeting discussed the continuation of the measure to reduce member countries’ demand for natural gas by 15 percent in preparation for the winter period.
The European Council reported that the member states approved the proposed regulation to extend the emergency measure for another 12 months, which includes reducing gas demand by 15 percent below the average of the last 5 years.
The current application was valid from August 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.
With this measure, the EU countries intend to save approximately 45,000 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
The natural gas consumption reduction target in question may be mandatory in emergency situations.
