Will there be a provisional increase in the minimum wage? Will there be an additional increase to the minimum wage in July?
The minimum wage, which is the lowest wage paid for labor, where the worker can meet basic requirements such as food, housing, heating, clothing, and transportation, has almost evaporated after successive increases. The increase in the minimum wage at the end of the year was also on the agenda in July due to high inflation.
WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE INTERMEDIATE?
Minister Vedat Bilgin, in recent months, “Can there be a second increase in the minimum wage?” He responded to the question as follows:
“We have the support of our President in this process. Mr. President, ‘Don’t be nervous, don’t worry, we’ll see 20 percent inflation by the end of next year.’ but all circumstances changed, extraordinary things happened. Did we know that there would be a war a year ago, a pandemic two years ago? If something out of the ordinary happens, it comes into play under these conditions. Otherwise, we have determined a minimum wage that will take us until the end of the year, which is above inflation, but that is clear, as our President has also said. Just like we intervened in July of last year.”
HOW MUCH IS THE GROSS MINIMUM WAGE?
The minimum wage was set at 10,08 gross lira and 8,506 net lira 80 cents in 2023. The monthly cost of the new figure for the employer was 11,759 lira 40 cents.
