Workers revolt in Istanbul Financial Center
Many contract workers who were working on the construction of the Istanbul Financial Center left their jobs because they could not receive a salary for 3 months.
Despite the objections made by economic circles, the problems experienced by the workers working on the project, which will allow public banks, especially the Central Bank, to move their headquarters from Ankara to Istanbul, have materialized these days.
THEY STARTED A STRIKE BY FIRE
The workers, who had previously protested at the construction site of the Financial Center, which was built by large capital groups known for their closeness to the government, due to the unsanitary conditions of the cafeteria, left their jobs this time because they could not receive A salary.
Numerous workers gathered yesterday in front of the work, which is expected to be the main building of the Central Bank, and started a strike by lighting a fire.
CHALLENGE BETWEEN WORKERS AND SAFETY
The boss, who wanted to suppress the workers’ strike, brought in the security guards against the workers.
The clash between the workers who collided with each other with iron bars and security was recorded by the other workers.
THEY TRIED TO GET THE WORKERS OUT OF THEIR BED
At night, security guards, who went to the workers’ dormitories, tried to evict the workers who allegedly caused an incident during the day.
This situation was met with the reaction of other workers.
‘We can’t pay because we can’t get money from the state’
Speaking to SÖZCÜ about what happened, the workers claimed that employer representatives told them that they could not pay because they could not receive allowances from the state, and that this situation was also in the articles of the contract.
Stating that the action continues today, the workers said that the Çevikkuvet police arrived at the construction site from now on. It was learned that 4,000 subcontracted workers work in the Financial Center.
