Earthquake shook the Treasury: the file was left open

Record Treasury cash deficit in February

The Ministry of Finance and Finance has released the cash balance data for February, when earthquakes centered on Kahramanmaraş caused extensive destruction in 11 provinces.

Consequently, the Treasury posted a record cash deficit of TL 171.5 billion in February. With a deficit of TL 54.3 billion in January, the cash deficit in the first two months of 2023 became TL 225.8 billion.

In February, the Treasury’s cash receipts were TL 208.3 billion, while its expenditures were TL 379.8 billion. Interest expense was recorded at TL 31.4 billion.

In February, the primary balance ran a record deficit of TL 140.1 billion. In the January-February period, the Treasury’s primary cash balance had a total deficit of TL 174.7 billion.

In February, the Treasury took a net loan of TL 52.8 billion.

Treasury deposits decreased by TL 121.8 billion net in February.
