Unemployment in the eurozone remained stable in January

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published unemployment data for the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone for the month of January.

Consequently, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the EU, which was 6.1 per cent in December, remained at the same level in January.

The unemployment rate in the Euro Zone, which was 6.7 percent in December, remained stable in January.

The unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in the Eurozone and 6.3 percent in the EU in January last year.

THE HIGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT IS IN SPAIN

By country, the unemployment rate was 13 percent in Spain, 7.9 percent in Italy, 7.1 percent in France and 3 percent in Germany in January.

While the number of unemployed in the EU was 13 million 227 thousand in January, 11 million 288 thousand of them occurred in the Euro Zone.

In January, the number of unemployed young people under the age of 25 was 2,781,000 in the EU and 2,286,000 in the Eurozone.

The youth unemployment rate was measured at 14.4% in the EU and the euro area. (AA)
