Insurance Warning for Lightly Damaged Homes

Rebuttal Notice for Insured Owners of Lightly Damaged Homes

Atilla Benli, President of the Turkish Insurance Association (TSB) and General Manager of Turkish Insurance, said that earthquake damage payouts from the insurance sector will exceed TL 20 billion. Benli said: “I advise insured homeowners with less damage to wait. Because the aftershocks continue, the damage may increase in the next few aftershocks,” she said.

In his statement on the earthquakes that affected 11 provinces in Kahramanmaraş, Benli stated that the average compulsory earthquake insurance in the earthquake-affected provinces was 49 percent and said the insurance rate in question was at least in Hatay. and most in Diyarbakır.

Stating that there is an insurance rate of 21 percent on home insurance and 17 percent on motor damage, Benli said, “Most of the vehicles in the earthquake region are daring. We estimate that we will pay around 1 billion TL for car insurance. Based on our initial calculations, we estimate that we, like the entire industry, will pay more than TL 20 billion in damages. As an industry, we have the power to pay for all disasters, not just earthquakes.” he said. Benli also stated that TCIP compensation payments are not included in the said TL20 billion.

INTEREST IN EARTHQUAKE INSURANCE INCREASED 3-4 TIMES

Benli explained that the sector was well prepared for disasters such as epidemics, floods and earthquakes, adding that they were ready for other major earthquakes that might occur after that, and that the insurance sector was a friend of bad days.

Emphasizing that the interest in earthquake insurance increased 3-4 times after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, Benli said that in this regard, the insurance rate increased very quickly and this effect should continue.

Noting that businesses are not within the scope of TCIP, Benli stressed the importance of policy coverage in terms of allowing businesses to pick up where they left off while minimizing the negative effects of disasters by distributing the impact on the Turkish economy to the world within the reinsurance system.

‘OWNERS OF LIGHTLY DAMAGED HOMES MUST WAIT’

Regarding claims that houses with a minor damage report were uninhabitable, Atilla Benli said: “Those with severe damage and others have priority in determination. I advise insured owners of slightly damaged homes to wait. Because the aftershocks continue, the damage may increase in subsequent aftershocks. If their damage has increased later, they will be paid as well, but they shouldn’t be in a hurry right now.” He said.

Benli stated that most of the vehicles in the earthquake zone were near or close to the curtain, and that the vehicles were taken to the collection points, they opened the file without any notice of license plate and chassis number, and made the payment. based on policy number.

Noting that records for life insurance in the earthquake zone have begun to be formed and are working with the relevant public institutions to obtain information about the death, he said that payment procedures have been initiated and they expect to pay around 2 billion lire for life insurance.

SUMMARY OF CITIZEN DEATH RATES

When asked if it would be easier if those affected by the earthquake wanted to leave the Private Pension System (BES), Atilla Benli responded as follows:

“There is a total fund size of around 25 billion TL in the earthquake zone. There are approximately 1.5 million BES holders in the region. Among these, if you have passed away, we quickly reach the heirs or beneficiaries so that they can be paid quickly, we notify them. If you want a special payment, we pay it quickly, regardless of our current time. There is still not a great demand in this regard. There was no one who wanted to go out and get stuck in time, but if someone comes later, our decision as a sector is to pay as much as possible without getting stuck in deadlines.

Asked about what is done in the event of the death of a citizen who has savings in the PPS, Benli said that although citizens are unaware of both life insurance and the PPS, insurers make payments looking at who has the right to succession. .

Noting that hundreds of thousands of animals perished in the earthquake area, Benli said that 4 to 5 million liras were paid and a total of 30 million payments were expected. (AA)
