Corendon believes that twice as many Dutch people will go to Brussels instead of Schiphol this year because of the problem. “Now that it has become clear that the problems are still not under control, many Dutch people are opting for Brussels and Corendon is responding to this,” Corendon CEO Steven van der Heijden explained at a press conference at Brussels airport.

Van der Heijden also does not rule out the possibility of further expansion of Corendon’s capacity in Brussels in the future. ‘The big problem isn’t even so much the long queues, but the fact that people go to the airport with a lot of fear because they are not sure of taking their flight. This way you don’t have any predictions about your holiday and you have to leave with a feeling of restlessness.’

Staff shortage

Due to understaffing at baggage handlers and security, long queues formed at Schiphol last year. As a result, the capacity had to be reduced. During the May holidays, the domestic airport will limit the number of outbound travelers by 5%.
