The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the death and cause of death statistics for the years 2020 and 2021, which it has not announced for two years.

Thus, while the number of deaths was 435,941 in 2019, it increased by 16.5% in 2020 to 507,938.

While 54.6% of the people who died in 2019 were men and 45.4% women, 56% of the people who died in 2020 were men and 44% women.

CAUSES OF DEATH

When deaths are broken down by cause, diseases of the circulatory system ranked first with 36 percent in 2020.

This cause of death was followed by diseases of the respiratory system with 15.8 percent and benign and malignant tumors with 15.7 percent.

In 2021, diseases of the circulatory system ranked first with 33.4%. This cause of death was followed by benign and malignant tumors with 14 percent and diseases of the respiratory system with 13.4%.

NUMBER OF DEATHS FROM COVID

The number of deaths from COVID-19 was 22,136 in 2020. 13,699 of the deaths were men and 8,437 women.

When COVID-19 deaths were analyzed by age group, it was observed that the highest number of COVID-19 deaths occurred in the 65-74 age group. Of the deceased in this age group, 4,508 were men and 2,546 women.

The number of deaths from the Corona virus was 65 thousand 198 in 2021.

Of those who died in 2021 due to COVID-19, 35,693 were men and 29,505 women.

When deaths from COVID-19 were analyzed by age group, it was observed that the age group with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 was 65-74 in 2020 and 75-84 in 2021. Of the deaths in the age group aged 75 to 84 years in 2021 due to COVID-19, 9,493 were men and 8,566 women.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH ANNOUNCED 82 THOUSAND

TURKSTAT announced the number of deaths from COVID-19 at 22,136 for 2020, 65,198 for 2021, and a total of 87,334 for two years.

According to data released today, while the number of citizens who died by suicide was 3,406 in 2019, this figure increased to 3,703 in 2020 and 4,158 in 2021. However, details of why these people committed suicide were not included. Data published up to 2019 also included the causes of suicides.

The number of people who committed suicide for economic reasons increased from 245 in 2018 to 321 in 2019; This number of explosions was expected in 2020.

In the details of the latest suicide statistics for 2019, it was noted that financial difficulties had driven more than 3,000 citizens to commit suicide every year since 2012.

NUMBER OF INFANT DEATHS

While the number of infant deaths was 10,770 in 2019, it rose to 9,657 in 2020. While the infant mortality rate, which expresses the number of infant deaths per thousand live births, was 9.1 per thousand in 2019, it became 8.7 per thousand in 2020. In other words, there were 8.7 infant deaths per thousand live births in 2020.

While the number of infant deaths was 9,657 in 2020, it rose to 9,938 in 2021. While the infant mortality rate, which represents the number of infant deaths per thousand live births, was 8.7 per thousand in 2020, it became 9.2 per thousand in 2021. That is, there were 9.2 infant deaths for every thousand live births in 2021.
