Cooperation on a possible German and Austrian natural gas problem

In the statement of the German Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection, it was indicated that an agreement was signed with Austria to assume joint responsibility for the use and filling of the Haidach and 7 gas storage facilities.

In the statement, it was stated that the new agreement was signed today in Vienna by German Minister of Economy and Climate Protection Robert Habeck and Austrian Minister of Climate Protection Leonore Gewessler.

RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE SHARED

With the agreement, the two countries ensured each other’s access to gas at their gas storage facilities “even in the event of power diversion or gas shortages.” The responsibility for the target filling quantities at such natural gas storage facilities will be shared between the two neighboring countries in the future.

Up to 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas may be stored in an underground gas storage and 7 other gas storage facilities in the deal in the town of Haidach near Salzburg, Austria.

Before the Russian-Ukrainian war, these facilities were used by the Russian energy company Gazprom. (AA)
