China’s installed renewable energy capacity increased by 152 gigawatts last year

According to the China National Energy Administration’s statement on renewable energy investment, the country’s installed wind and solar power capacity has increased by more than 100 gigawatts in the past three consecutive years.

In 2022, there was approximately 152.2 gigawatts of capacity increase in renewable energy. This increase was calculated at 37.6 gigawatts of wind power, 87.4 gigawatts of solar power, 3.4 gigawatts of biomass, and 23.8 gigawatts of hydropower.

With the increase in capacity, the total installed power in renewable energy reached 1,213 gigawatts, while the share of renewables in the total installed power increased to 47.3 percent.

On the other hand, 76.2 percent of the installed capacity commissioned in 2022 came from renewable energies. 31.6 percent of total electricity production last year came from renewable energy sources.

China announced that in 2021, the country’s total installed power is around 2,400 gigawatts. While the country’s investments in renewable energy sources have drawn attention in recent years, coal also plays an important role in electricity generation. Coal-fired power plants make up nearly half of China’s total installed power. (AA)
