SEDDK announced the decisions made under the state of emergency
In the statement made by SEDDK, it was stated that SEDDK continues its financial and operational studies immediately with all affiliated institutions and sector stakeholders for the largest earthquake disaster in history that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and affected 13.5 million of citizens.
In the statement, it was indicated that within the framework of the declaration of the state of emergency, decisions were made in order to effectively manage the damage insurance processes of citizens and institutions affected by the earthquake, as well as agencies and liquidators who work in the field in difficult conditions.
“In this context, the terms of validity of the insurance policies in all branches that expire on February 6, 2023 and May 1, 2023 in the provinces where the State of Alarm was declared, have been extended until 1 May 2023, with the premium being collected on May 1, 2023 at the earliest. Mandatory earthquake insurance policies expiring between February 6, 2023 and May 1, 2023 will automatically renew with premium collection on May 1, 2023 at the earliest (except major damage). We have determined May 1, 2023 as the earliest premium collection date for policies issued between February 6, 2023 and May 1, 2023, being valid in all insurance lines. In addition to article 3, it is mandatory to make at least 6 installments in the payment of premiums in compulsory civil liability insurance policies for road motor vehicles and compulsory insurance against earthquakes.
In addition to articles 3 and 4 of the compulsory highway motor vehicle liability insurance policies, additional premium payments (surcharges) due to non-renewal of the policy on time have been cancelled. The power of insurance companies to cancel policies in all lines of insurance that may be subject to cancellation due to the impossibility of collecting premiums between February 6, 2023 and May 1, 2023 is temporarily suspended until May 1, 2023. 2023. In the cases in which the risk is incurred, instructions have been given to the insurance companies so that they prioritize the notifications of claims and payments of indemnities of the policies in all branches of insurance. The requirement to use static IP for insurance agents, insurance and reinsurance brokers, and adjusters has been temporarily removed until May 1, 2023, valid in all provinces. All exams (adjuster, agency technical staff, non-life insurance arbitrator) to be carried out by the Insurance Training Center have been postponed to a date after May 1, 2023.”
“OVER 30 THOUSAND DAMAGE COMPLAINTS WERE PROCESSED”
In the statement, it is stated that the Turkish Reinsurance and Natural Disaster Insurance Institution has also moved to seismic zones and implemented steps with central and field surveys since the first earthquake, and such steps are listed below:
“The necessary measures have been taken so that the collection problem does not prevent the renewal of policies. AloDask125 call center was opened and started working 24/7. The infrastructure to receive notification of damages through IVR, SMS, web and electronic government has been completed. As of February 10, 2023, more than 30,000 claims have been processed and expert witness assignments have begun in coordination with TOBB-SEIK. In addition to the 600 experts who will be on the ground in the seismic zones, academics from related university departments have been asked to prepare a general damage report and additional measures will be implemented where necessary to speed up the process. The earthquake truck was first installed in Kahramanmaraş and started its service, while other mobile offices will be operational from February 13. Compensation processes were started immediately for the destroyed buildings and the first damage compensation payment was made within 24 hours.”
In the statement, it was noted that SEDDK closely follows developments in earthquakes and search and rescue efforts, and updates work in coordination with all stakeholders. (AA)
