The number of cattle and sheep animals decreased in 2022 in Turkey
The Turkish Statistical Institute announced the Animal Production Statistics for 2022.
Thus, in the bovine sector, the number of heads of cattle decreased 5.6 percent compared to the previous year and reached 16 million 852 thousand heads, while the number of buffaloes decreased 7.4 percent compared to the previous year and reached to 171 thousand 835 heads.
The number of sheep and goats decreased by 2.2 percent compared to the previous year and reached 56 million 266 thousand heads. In the area of small cattle, the number of sheep decreased 1.1 percent compared to the previous year and reached 44 million 688 thousand heads, while the number of goats decreased 6.2 percent compared to the previous year and reached 11 million 578 thousand heads.
INCREASED HONEY PRODUCTION
Production of wool, hair, mohair and wet silk cocoons decreased, and honey production increased. Compared to the previous year, fleece production decreased by 1.2% to 84,885 tons, hair production decreased by 4.6% to 6,393 tons and mohair production decreased by 10.9% to 417 tons. . Honey production increased 22.8 percent over the previous year and reached 118,297 tons.
STRONG FALL IN SALA DE SEDA
The number of villages engaged in silkworm farming decreased by 15.9% compared to the previous year and became 559. The number of households engaged in silkworm farming decreased by 12.9% to 1 761. The number of open seed boxes decreased 7.5 percent compared to the previous year and reached 5,577 pieces, while the production of wet silk capsules decreased 10 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 69 tons.
