The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the results of the address-based population registration system for the year 2022.
As of December 31, 2022, the resident population in Turkey increased by 599,280 people compared to the previous year and reached 85,279,553 people. While the male population was 42,704,112 people, the female population was 42,575,441 people. In other words, 50.1% of the total population were men and 49.9% were women.
According to the results of the Population Registration System by Residence (ADNKS), the foreign population residing in our country increased by 31,800 people with respect to the previous year and reached 1,823,836 people. 49.5 percent of this population were men and 50.5 percent were women.
While the annual population growth rate was 12.7 per thousand in 2021, it became 7.1 per thousand in 2022.
The proportion of people living in provincial and district centers, which was 93.2% in 2021, increased to 93.4% in 2022. On the other hand, the ratio of people living in towns and villages decreased from 6, 8 percent to 6.6 percent.
THE POPULATION OF ISTANBUL IS INCREASING
The population of Istanbul increased by 67 thousand 51 people compared to the previous year and became 15 million 907 thousand 951 people. Istanbul, where 18.65 percent of Turkey’s population resides, is followed by Ankara with 5,782,285 people, Izmir with 4,462,056 people, Bursa with 3,194,720 people, and Antalya with 2 million. 688 thousand 4 people.
Bayburt was the province with the least population with 84,241 people. Bayburt was followed by Tunceli with 84,366 people, Ardahan with 92,481 people, Gümüşhane with 144,544 people and Kilis with 147,919 people.

When comparing the population pyramids of Turkey in 2007 and 2022, it is observed that the elderly population increases and the median age increases due to the decrease in fertility and mortality rates.
The median age in Turkey, which was 33.1 years in 2021, increased to 33.5 in 2022. When analyzing by gender, the median age increased from 32.4 to 32.8 in men and from 33.8 to 34.2 in women.
Looking at the median age distribution by province, it was seen that Sinop had the highest median age of 42.4. Sinop was followed by Kastamonu and Giresun with 41.6. On the other hand, Şanlıurfa was the province with the lowest median age at 20.8. Şanlıurfa was followed by Şırnak with 22.2 and Siirt and Ağrı with 23.3.

INCREASE THE NUMBER OF POPULATION OF WORKING AGE
While the proportion of the population in the 15-64 age group, defined as the working age, was 66.5% in 2007, it rose to 68.1% in 2022. On the other hand, the proportion of the population aged 0 to 14, defined as the child age group, decreased from 26.4 percent to 22 percent, while the proportion of the population aged 65 and over increased from 7.1 percent to 9 .9 percent.
The total age dependency ratio, which shows the number of children and the elderly per person of working age, decreased from 47.4% in 2021 to 46.8% in 2022.
While the child dependency ratio, which expresses the number of children per person of working age, decreased from 33% to 32.3%, the dependency ratio of older adults, which measures the number of older people per person of employment, decreased from 14.3% to 14.5%. % pink. The “number of people per square kilometer”, defined as the population density, increased by 1 person compared to 2021 and increased to 111 people across Turkey. Istanbul became the province with the highest population density with 3,062 inhabitants per square kilometer. After Istanbul, Kocaeli with 576 people and Izmir with 371 people became the most densely populated provinces.
On the other hand, the province with the lowest population density was Tunceli with 11 inhabitants per square kilometer, the same as the previous year. Tunceli was followed by Ardahan with 19 people and Erzincan with 21 people.
The population density of Konya, which ranks first in terms of area, was 59, and the population density of Yalova, which has the smallest area, was 350.
