While the government said: “The country’s economy is flying”, the 2023 Performance Program of the Ministry of Family and Social Services revealed that citizens are increasingly poor.
While the amount allocated by the Ministry of Family and Social Services for Poverty Alleviation and Social Assistance was TL 39.5 billion in 2021, it became TL 52.7 billion in 2022. The Ministry provided social assistance for an amount of TL 138.1 billion in 2023, TL 150.9 billion in 2024 and TL 165.4 billion in 2025.
456 TL PER HOUSEHOLD
While the average monthly amount of social assistance provided by the Ministry of Family and Social Services per household was 471 TL in 2019, it was 572 TL in 2020 and 552 TL in 2021. In 2022, the Ministry donated 414 TL. The amount of aid in 2023 was determined at TL 456 per household. According to the data announced by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, 1,343,109 households benefited from Support for Electricity Consumption in 2019, while this number increased to 1,659,448 households in 2020. The Ministry delivered electricity to 1,801,835 people in 2021. In 2022, the number of households receiving electricity support increased to 1,836,495.
4.8 BILLION RESOURCES
According to the Ministry’s program, it is expected that 1,944,524 households will benefit from electrical support in 2023. According to Ministry estimates, 2,52,553 people in 2024 and 2,155,181 people in 2025 will benefit from the support. to electricity consumption. Although resources of 686.5 million TL were transferred in 2019 within the scope of Support for Electricity Consumption, this amount increased to 1,000 million 817 million 867 thousand TL in 2020. While in 2021, 1,518 million 798 thousand TL were paid , in 2022 3 thousand 797 million 647 thousand TL of electrical aid were provided. In 2023, resources for 4 thousand 827 million 180 thousand TL were assigned.
The number of children who need help has also increased
The high number of children who benefit from Social and Economic Support (SED) services was also reflected in data from the Ministry of Family and Social Services. The number of children who could not be provided with family care, which was 129,422 in 2020 and 141,275 in 2021, reached 145,000 in 2022. The 2023 forecast is predicted at 150,000. Data on the General Health Insurance (GSS) premium paid from the general budget for citizens whose per capita income is less than a third of the gross minimum wage also revealed poverty. The number of people whose GSS premiums were covered by the state was 7 million 879 thousand 277 in 2023.
