The Competition Authority opened an investigation against Google for alleged abuse of a dominant position.
In the statement made on the Authority’s website, it was indicated that the Competition Board analyzed the information, documents and findings obtained in the preliminary investigation at its meeting on January 12, 2023 and found that the findings are serious and enough.
‘THE FINDINGS ARE SERIOUS AND ENOUGH’
The statement included the following:
“The Competition Board, which discussed the information, documents and findings obtained in the preliminary investigation at its meeting dated 01.12.2023, found the findings serious and sufficient; Alphabet Inc., Google LLC, Google International LLC, Google Ireland Limited and Google Advertising and Marketing Ltd. Şti., under number 23-03/27-M, to open an investigation into financial integrity.
Alphabet Inc., Google LLC, Google International LLC, Google Ireland Limited and Google Advertising and Marketing Ltd. Ltd. Şti., by abusing their dominant position in the market for general search services, the Competition Board concluded the preliminary investigation to determine if it violated article 6 of Law No. 4054.”
WHAT DOES IT SAY IN THE ARTICLE DECLARED AS VIOLATION?
On the other hand, article 6 of Law No. 4054 includes the following statements:
“It is illegal and prohibited for one or more companies to abuse their dominant position in a market for goods or services in all or part of the country, either alone or through agreements with others or acting jointly.”
