Natural gas imports decreased 18.3 percent in November of last year

Turkey’s natural gas imports decreased by 18.3 percent in November 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year and became approximately 4.123 million cubic meters.

According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of November 2022, approximately 2 thousand 353 million cubic meters of imports were made through gas pipelines and 1 thousand 769 million meters cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

MOST IMPORTS FROM IRAN

In this period, natural gas imports through pipelines decreased by approximately 22.1 percent and LNG imports decreased by 12.7 percent. Total imports of natural gas decreased 18.3 percent in this period and reached approximately 4,123 million cubic meters.

In November last year, the largest natural gas import was from Iran with 857 million cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 749 million cubic meters and Russia with 746 million cubic meters. Iran’s natural gas imports rose 7.6 percent, while Azerbaijan’s imports rose 23.4 percent. Imports from Russia decreased by 53.8%.

HOUSING CONSUMPTION DECREASED 15.8 PERCENT

In said period, the consumption of natural gas in the country decreased 25.5 percent and reached 3 thousand 618 million cubic meters. Natural gas consumption by organized industrial zones decreased by 20 percent and was registered at 325 million cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption at power plants decreased 38.7 percent to 835 million cubic meters. The decrease in gas consumption by the power plants was also decisive in the decrease in total consumption and imports. The consumption of natural gas in residences decreased by 15.8 percent in this period and went to 1,000 million 32 million cubic meters.

INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF STOCKS

The amount of natural gas stocks in Turkey amounted to 5.275 million cubic meters in November last year, an increase of 118.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

5,164 million cubic meters (97 percent) of the natural gas stock was in underground storage facilities and 111 million cubic meters (2.1 percent) in LNG terminals. The amount of stock at underground storage facilities increased by approximately 137.2 percent, while the amount of stock at LNG terminals decreased by 52.8 percent. (AA)
