Industrialists cannot afford the new exchange rate boom

Exporters have trouble reflecting the rising cost of the Turkish lira in prices as the exchange rate is below inflation. When complaints on the issue increased, the President of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), Şahap Kavcıoğlu, held a meeting with the Assembly of Exporters of Turkey. Noting that they conveyed their demands to Kavcıoğlu on the basis of sectors, Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metal Exporters Association (IDDMIB) President Çetin Tecdelioğlu noted that the CBRT is conducting a study and they expect an announcement on this. matter soon. Explaining that in 2022 they made an export of 14.4 billion dollars with an increase of 16.4% compared to the previous year, Tecdelioğlu pointed out that they can reach 16 billion dollars of exports this year. Explaining that they have the ability to increase this to USD 20 billion, Tecdelioğlu stated that they also want a sector-specific competitive energy tariff. Emphasizing that there are still difficulties in accessing finance, Teccelioğlu said: “We need low-interest long-term loans. In the meantime, we must point out that private sector debts are stuck in the 1-year period,” he said.

SME definition should be increased to TL billion

Reminding that companies that do not exceed 250 million lira are defined as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Çetin Tecdelioğlu pointed out that there are significant increases in turnover due to inflation, and that this limit should be increased to 1 billion of TL in order for the SME class to benefit from support and incentives faster. Tecdelioğlu also stated that companies with retirement age (EYT) will lose their trained human resources.
