Domestic tourism expenditures increased by 112.6 percent in the third quarter of 2022
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the domestic domestic tourism statistics for the third quarter of 2022. Consequently, while 19 million 156 thousand people traveled domestically, tourism spending increased 112.6 percent annually.
In the third quarter, which includes July, August and September, 19 million 156 thousand people residing in the country went on a trip.
The total trips made by travelers with one or more overnight stays within the country increased 1.1 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to 23 million 384 thousand trips. Travelers in this quarter made 225 million 206 thousand overnight stays. The average number of overnight stays was 9.6 nights.
TRAVEL EXPENSES INCREASE 112.6 PERCENT
The travel expenses of national tourists in the country are in the third year of 2022. In the third quarter of the year, it increased by 112.6 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to 63 thousand 366 million 190 thousand TL.
88.7 percent of these expenses were personal expenses with TL 56.190 million 944 thousand, and 11.3 percent of them were package travel expenses with TL 7 billion 175 million 247 thousand. The average expense per trip was 2 thousand 710 TL.
When looking at the distribution rates of the types of expenses in total travel expenses this quarter, food and beverage expenses at 31.8%, transportation expenses at 27.8%, and lodging expenses with 15.1% they had the highest participation.
When analyzing the variation rates of this type of expense compared to the same period of the previous year, an increase of 108.5 percent was observed in food and beverage expenses, 155.8 percent in transportation expenses, and 110.1 percent in accommodation expenses.
MOST STAY AT THE HOMES OF FRIENDS OR FAMILY
Those who traveled this quarter stayed mostly in “friends’ or relatives’ houses” with 137 million 265 thousand overnight stays. According to the modalities of accommodation, the “own house” ranked second in number of overnight stays with 52 million 889 thousand nights, while the “hotel” ranked third with 19 million 594 thousand overnight stays.
Trips for the purpose of visiting relatives ranked first with 53 percent. In terms of travel reasons, “travel, entertainment, vacation” ranked second with 41.3 percent and “health” with 2.4 percent.
