Strike by 1,400 metal workers in 6 factories

The United Metal-İş union announced that 1,400 workers at 6 factories affiliated with the employers’ union MESS, Schneider Energy, Grid Solutions Energy and Hitachi will go on strike at 10:00 am on Monday, January 23.

In the January 12 announcement it was announced that 2,000 metalworkers from 11 factories connected to 5 processing plants would go on strike, but the number of workers going on strike was reduced to 1,400 with subsequent agreements.

Recalling that negotiations started again this week at the request of MESS, United Metal-Is said in its statement: “A deal could not be reached at 3 companies. At Schneider Energy, Grid Solutions Energy and Hitachi, the employers’ union’s offer was rejected as insufficient.

‘REQUESTS ARE JUSTIFIED AND ACCEPTABLE’

The following statement was made by the union:

“Unfortunately, as always, workers pay the price for the distorted and unilateral economic policies implemented by the government.

We will use our power of production to stop this trend, where poverty has increased so much and the share of wages in income is rapidly declining.

In this case, the strike was inevitable for the solution of the conflict.

The real losses in the wages of our affiliates are incomparable with their production and productivity results.

The demands of our members are justified and affordable.

BEKAERT WORKERS WHO EARN DESPITE THE RECALLED BAN

Again, we warn the government not to resort to the decision to postpone the strike.

Postponement decisions that have been condemned many times in the past by the Constitutional Court will not prevent our union from exercising this right.

We would like to remind the employers, who hope to solve the problem with the president’s ban decree, the Bekaert strike, that we were on strike despite the ban and continued for 18 days and successfully concluded it.”
