According to Knibbe, the agenda is full of important topics. ‘Personally, I watch climate conversations closely, for example how we can reduce CO2 emissions. Other important topics at the summit are technology and the geopolitical situation.’
Importance of the Netherlands
Many large companies are present in Davos, as well as politicians and scientists. This is one of the few places where it all comes together. So many people want to be there, because you can talk to so many different stakeholders in just a few days. After all, it’s about the future of our world, so that makes the WEF an important place.’
Criticism
There are also many criticisms of the WEF; there would be too much talk but too little results. Knibbe understands the criticisms, but stresses that concrete things will also emerge from the talks. ‘Today, insurers have jointly launched a series of targets and plans to reduce CO2 emissions, and a food program has also been launched in the past, for example.’
The WEF is not like the United Nations, compare Knibbe. ‘This meeting is actually used for networking and learning a lot from each other. For example, we talk and discuss the security of our data, today coincidentally with the CEO of TikTok. But issues such as trust in society are also discussed.’
