All the world’s elites unite: Here are the Davos agendas

The World Economic Forum (WEF), which will be held for the 53rd time this year under the theme “Collaboration in a Fragmented World,” will call on leaders to “manage together the crises facing the world and develop a coordinated action plan. ”.

The forum, which will begin tomorrow in the Swiss town of Davos and will last until January 20, will include the participation of leaders from numerous countries and international organizations and representatives of the business world, and will bring together more than 2,700 participants, 50 of them who are heads of state/government, from 130 countries.

According to the WEF statement, a large number of heads of state and officials will attend, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

There will be no leadership level participation in the forum from countries like the US, China and Russia. There is no official participation in the Turkey summit. More than 1,500 leaders from approximately 700 different organizations applied to participate in the WEF, which will be held this year with the participation of the largest number of representatives from the business world.

Within the scope of the forum, the topics of the Russia-Ukraine War, the Kovid-19 epidemic, technology, energy, climate change, health, migration and the international crisis will come to the fore in the sessions.

Session titles include “considering the current energy and food crises in the context of a new energy and climate system”, “the current high inflation associated with the investment, trade and infrastructure system”, “a new system to take advantage of the leading technologies for private sector innovation and resilience”, “existing social security gaps in the context of a new employment and skills system, existing geopolitical risks in the framework of a new system of dialogue and cooperation in a multipolar world.

CALL TO STRENGTHEN COOPERATION

At the forum, which will take place in times of trouble in different areas in many different parts of the world, world leaders will be called upon to address crises and opportunities for coordinated action together for a more sustainable and resilient world.

The 53rd WEF Summit will focus on solutions and public-private collaboration to address pressing challenges facing the world. Politicians and business representatives participating in the program are expected to benefit from new and inclusive ideas.

WEF President Klaus Schwab said in a statement that they are witnessing political, economic and social challenges that are causing increasing fragmentation globally and nationally.

“To address the causes of this erosion of trust, we need to strengthen relationships between the government and the business sectors and create the conditions for a strong and lasting recovery,” Schwab said. It must also be recognized that no one should be left behind to make economic development more flexible and sustainable. he used his statements.

WEF General Manager Mirek Dusek noted that the summit will be held during a difficult economic scenario this year, saying that the world is currently facing many crises due to interrelated reasons.

Dusek pointed out that the correct word for these problems was “transition.” Expressing that the current crises are not specific to a particular country or region, but affect the world in an unprecedented way, Dusek said that government policies must be formed on a global scale and based on cooperation.

THE PROTESTS ARE WAITING

Anti-forum demonstrations are also expected during the WEF. Swiss soldiers and police will strictly monitor the roads and railways connected to the city of Davos this year.

While protesters gathered in Davos, Zurich, and other countries in recent years criticized the WEF for reasons such as climate change and the economy, many users on social media showed their reaction to Davos.

As part of the summit, extensive security measures will be taken in the city of Davos this year. The Swiss parliament has designated 5,000 members of the army to secure the forum, which will be attended by guests from around the world.

critique of hypocrisy

The WEF will be held for the sixth time this year with the aim of being “climate neutral”, but while there are calls for action to protect the climate within the scope of the summit, the fact that many of the forum’s guests, Leaders and business people will come to Davos on private planes cast a shadow over this.

It is claimed that around 500 special flights were carried out in connection with the WEF Summit held in May 2022, and these flights caused the emission of 7,400 tons of carbon dioxide.

Given the calls that will be made on climate during the summit, there are criticisms that this is “hypocrisy.” (AA)
