High expectation of increase in the rate of military service
Military candidates are eagerly awaiting the increase in the military service fee in 2023. The military service fee indexed to the salaries of civil servants may exceed TL 100,000 in January 2023, based on current inflation forecasts.
The inflation rates announced each month according to TUIK data directly affect the rates of increase that civil servants will receive. Inflation rises to around 3 percent in December, and if there is no additional increase for the election year, civil servants and retired officials will have to settle for an increase of 18.6 percent.
While consumer inflation has been 14.05 percent in the last 5 months, the increase in civil servants will remain at 18.6 percent if there is no additional increase according to this rate.
HOW ARE MILITARY DUES PAID CALCULATED?
In accordance with Recruitment Law No. 7179, the salary to be paid for paid military service is calculated by multiplying the figure of the indicator 240 thousand by the monthly coefficient of the public official in force on the day the payment is made. This figure is determined again in January and July of each year.
The currently applied military service fee is 80,000 64 TL (0.333603*240000=80064.72). Therefore, the military candidates are also closely following the increase in civil servants. According to the collective agreement signed between civil servants and the government, civil servants will receive a 6-month inflation increase in 2023.
In the case of monthly inflation of 3 percent in December, this increase is expected to exceed 18 percent. Therefore, if civil servants receive an increase to this rate, the paid military service quota is expected to be around 95,000. However, this figure may change in the event of a further increase.
EXPECTED ADDITIONAL INCREASE
Earlier this year, civil servants and retired civil servants received an additional 5-point increase on top of the inflation difference plus the collective bargaining agreement increase. Given that it is an election year, it may not come as a surprise that an additional raise is also being awarded this year. Giving an additional increase will mean that the paid military service rate will increase in the same way.
According to the figure announced yesterday, the minimum wage was increased by 54.66 percent to 8,506 TL. For example, a similar increase in the salaries of civil servants may mean that the rate of paid military service exceeds 120,000 TL.
HOW MUCH HAS THE COST INCREASED IN THE PAST?
The salary, which was 31,343 liras in June 2019, when the law that made paid military service permanent came into force, decreased to 32,230 liras the following month, 35,054 liras in the first half of 2020, 37 thousand 20 lira in the second half and 39 thousand 788 lira in the first half of 2021. Turkish lira and 43 thousand 150 lira in the second half.
Subsequently, due to high inflation, military service salaries rose rapidly along with the salaries of civil servants. The military service fee, which was TL 56,507 in the first half of last year, exceeded TL 80,000 in the second half of the year. The increase in the three-year period was 155 percent.
