The eyes of millions are on this meeting.
The minimum wage negotiations, which directly affect approximately 8 million employees, have come to an end. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will meet for the third time today (December 20), is expected to reach an agreement on the minimum wage to apply for 2023. In his statement to a television channel yesterday, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Bilgin, who said he hoped a compromise would be reached at today’s meeting, said: “I hope we realize both the expectations of our workers and an expectation that is at a limit that our employers can pay. Bilgin said: “I also asked the merchants who employ workers for them, I also asked the children who work directly. Of course, employees have higher expectations. The merchants say, ‘Make something we can afford, so we can stay open.’ I hope that employees in Turkey will be a figure where they can breathe comfortably and feel free from the pressure of inflation.”
The expectation sat in the band of ‘at least 8 thousand TL’
The workers’ representative of the commission, Türk-İş, which held its first meeting on December 7 and its second meeting on December 14, negotiated a figure above the hunger limit of 7,785 lira. TİSK, which represents the employer sector, made a statement that it would take responsibility for the minimum wage. The minister Vedat Bilgin declared that the expectations were in the band of 8 thousand TL.
