1,138 Turks closed shops, 1,200 Syrians opened

IYI Kayseri party MP Dursun Ataş stated that 1,138 Turkish merchants had to close their shops in Kayseri last year due to economic problems, saying: “Instead of these, 1,200 Syrian businesses were opened, banners in Arabic were put up.” .

In his budget speech at Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, Atas said:

“Every day, a Turkish shopkeeper removes a sign and puts up signs in Arabic in its place. There are Syrians who have opened more businesses in Kayseri than merchants who have closed their businesses. In 2021, 1,138 merchants closed their workplaces, while 1,200 Syrians opened businesses in Kayseri.

When this year’s data comes in, we will see together how many Kayseri residents have closed their shutters and how many Syrians have opened new workplaces. Because the tax for the people of Kayseri is not for the Syrians. I support the Syrians, not Kayseri; The aid from the governorate and the municipality, which rains down on the Syrians, rains down like taxes when it comes to Kayseri. The people of Kayseri are now tired of carrying more than 110,000 refugees on their backs.”
