Energy cooperation between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates

The decision regarding the approval of the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on Cooperation in the Field of Energy” signed in Ankara on November 24, 2019, was published in the Official Gazette. 2021.

Accordingly, the MoU aims to establish a framework for the development of bona fide cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy and to facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge, advice, skills and experience.

THE CHALLENGES OF OIL EXTRACTION WILL ALSO BE ADDRESSED

In this context, the sustainable development of the oil and gas sectors between the two countries will be promoted.

Opportunities and challenges in oil and gas investment and oil and gas extraction, processing and transportation will be discussed, including innovations that reduce environmental impacts and cooperation through knowledge and technology.

Co-investment opportunities in clean energy technologies will be explored.

Collaboration on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and energy storage technologies will be developed.

‘WORKERS AFFECTED BY ENERGY TRANSFORMATION’

There will also be a focus on the challenges and opportunities for workers and communities affected by the energy transition, and skills and workforce development to support the energy transition in both countries.

In this context, best practices for implementing and facilitating the energy transition in both countries and for energy policies and regulations will be explored.

The two countries also discussed hydrogen production technologies, transportation solutions and costs, storage solutions and costs, reduction of carbon density of hydrogen derived from fossil fuels, hydrogen fuel cells, use of nuclear power plants for the hydrogen production, refunctionalization of fossil fuel infrastructure, end users. applications and demonstration of operation, it will also collaborate in the areas of certifications and export regulations, safety standards and certifications, integration of the value chain and production and application of intermediate products.

INCLUDING MINING

The MoU will also focus on the sustainable development of the mining industry.

Investment opportunities in the mining industry in both countries will be explored, including the transformation of mining industries.

Experiences on mining legislation, resource classification and reporting will be exchanged. Opportunities and challenges in the mining industry will be addressed, including innovations to reduce environmental impacts.

Training will be shared in the form of exchange of experts or internships in the mining sector, the use of new technologies between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, the exchange of experiences and best practices in terms of transformation and supply chain studies. (AA)
