The number of air passengers in the EU increased by 35% in 2021
The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has announced data on air travel in 2021 in 27 EU member countries.
Consequently, the aviation sector, which was severely affected by the Kovid-19 epidemic in 2020, started to recover last year. The number of airline passengers in EU countries increased by 35% in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching 373 million.
CANNOT REACH THE PRE-PANDEMIC PERIOD
On the other hand, in 2019, the pre-epidemic period in EU countries, the number of airline passengers exceeded 1 billion. Despite last year’s increase, the airline industry was unable to reach its previous level.
39 percent of such trips were made outside the EU, 38 percent between EU countries and 23 percent within the domestic routes of EU countries. The fastest increase in the number of airlines was registered in Croatia with 129%, the Greek Cypriot Administration with 105% and Greece with 86%.
In this period, most of the air travel in the EU countries was made from Paris CDG with 26.2 million, Amsterdam with 25.5 million, Frankfurt with 24.8 million and Madrid with 23.2 million.
