Concerns over the minimum wage gripped merchants

Minimum The salary negotiations caused an anxious wait in the merchants. Although it was stated that the minimum wage could be 8 to 10 thousand lire with the effect of the election, the merchants began to worry about ‘how can we pay the salary’. Speaking to SÖZCÜ, the merchants said that if the minimum wage is increased due to the elections, small merchants such as hairdressers, shopkeepers, tailors and greengrocers, who employ one or two people and have a hard time, will experience difficulties. The President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken, stated that they wanted a reasonable increase in the minimum wage, and that with the new increase in the minimum wage, the merchants’ businesses would be revived, but the distress of those who had difficulty paying their wages would increase.

FEARED CHOICE

The merchants, who do not have a representative on the minimum wage determination commission, said that the increases in the minimum wage would affect them more. Small businesses, who stated that their costs, especially rent, electricity and natural gas, had increased dramatically, but prices could not reflect all costs, said that business slowed down due to the decrease in the purchasing power of people. .

Speaking to SÖZCÜ, a trader said: “Apparently, our turnover increased due to inflation and rising prices, but our profits decreased as costs increased more. At the beginning of last year, when the minimum wage was 4,250 lira, we made the salary of our staff 5,000 lira. When it reached 5,500 liras, we increased it to 6,000 liras. Considering the elections, what will we do if there are 8 thousand or even 10 thousand lire, how will we pay those salaries? he said he.

We want a reasonable raise

test President Bendevi Palandöken said that the new minimum wage increase will have a positive and negative impact on traders, and will increase the problems of traders who have difficulty paying their wages. Stating that they wanted a reasonable increase in the minimum wage, Palandöken demanded that the premium burden on wages paid by tradesmen be eased. Palandoken said: “We have no say in determining the minimum wage. We are looking from the outside. An increase will probably be made considering the situation of the traders, ”he said.
