The balance of the truckers’ strike in South Korea became clear

The South Korean truckers’ strike, which began last week, caused 1.6 trillion won ($1.23 billion) worth of shipment disruptions, while a lack of government and union progress toward reconciliation indicated that the strike could take a long time.

Although the strike, in which more than 20,000 truckers from all over the country participated, entered its eighth day, the interruptions in the supply chain continued today.

The industry ministry said in a statement that the goods whose shipments were halted included 731.3 billion won worth of steel, 319.2 billion won worth of automobiles, and 442.6 billion won worth of petroleum products.

there was a scream

No date has yet been set for the next bargaining meeting between the government and the union, but two sources who attended yesterday’s meeting reported shouting between the Truck Drivers Solidarity Union (CTSU), which organized the strike, and government representatives.

While the government has announced that it will not extend the base wage system for truckers for more than three years, the union argues that the system should be made permanent and its scope should be expanded. (Reuters)
