At the meeting held in the İZTO multi-purpose hall with the participation of İZTO Board Chairman Mahmut Özgener and council members, developments related to the city and the country’s economy were discussed.

With the last increase in June, the members of the commission expressed their opinion that 210 grams of bread was sold at 4 TL, to be 5 TL.
The commission’s decision was sent to the Ministry of Commerce for its opinion. After the approval of the Ministry, the proposal for a maximum increase in the price of bread was discussed in the IZTO assembly. With the unanimous acceptance of the new bread price tariff, 210 grams of bread in İzmir became 5 TL with an increase of 25 percent.
“CURRENT DEFICIT INCREASES TO $39.2 BILLION AT THE END OF THE THIRD QUARTER”
Stating that there is inflation and monetary tightening in the world economy, İZTO Chairman of the Board Mahmut Özgener said that when looking at the Turkish economy in terms of developments in the world economy, the interest rate decision and the Growth figures taken last week reveal a highly controversial picture.
Stating that the Gross Domestic Product grew by 3.9 percent in the third quarter of this year compared to last year, according to TUIK data, Özgener claimed that this was the lowest level of recovery after the pandemic.
Expressing that there is a contraction in the growth figures, Özgener said: “There was a contraction of 0.1 percent in the economy in the third quarter compared to the second quarter. In other words, in the third quarter, when tourism receipts peaked and the Central Bank began to cut interest rates again, the economy contracted compared to the spring months. In the third quarter, as the economy contracted on a quarterly basis, inflation continued to rise and, perhaps most importantly, the current account deficit continued to widen. At the end of the third quarter, the current account deficit increased to 39.2 billion dollars. The foreign trade deficit increased 421.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. It is necessary to restore confidence in the markets. “Our priority is to get monetary policy normalization on the agenda,” he said.
CALL FOR INFLATION ACCOUNTING
Expressing that they see the application of inflationary accounting as an inevitable situation to avoid the collapse of capital, Özgener said that keeping accounts in accordance with current tax law creates unrealistic results and causes “reckless and unfair” taxes in the sense of violation. of Article 73 of the Constitution.
Noting that exporters started receiving cancellations on their previous orders, Özgener said they received news of a decrease in freight due to order cancellations.
‘Don’t Renounce Caution’ Warning to Assembly Members
Emphasizing that they predicted that some costs could occur after the elections, Mahmut Özgener warned the assembly members and continued as follows:
“We believe that it is imperative to plan the steps to be taken in the Turkish economy after the elections, the cost of current policies and the problems that need to be corrected. We see that a difficult process awaits the country’s economy. In order to pass this period with as little damage as possible, we must take precautions. From another point of view, this period offers opportunities to see and implement innovations, to ensure budgetary efficiency, to review the financial situation of our businesses, as well as to create sustainable business and corporate management”.
EVENTS IN GÖZTEPE- ALTAY MEETING
Stating that the events in the Göztepe-Altay match were unacceptable, Özgener stressed that we all need to work together to make İzmir the capital of sport and fair play, not hooliganism, without undermining the problems experienced. (DHA)
