The famous Fevkani bridge is being demolished: the tender for the new project was completed with a covert cover

Turkey’s first steel bridge, Fevkani, is being demolished, a closed-door tender was held to build the bridge without informing anyone.

The Zonguldak bridge project was carried out on October 26, 2022, with the 21-b non-competitive negotiation method instead of the open method. 4 companies were invited to the tender organized by the General Directorate of Highways attached to the Ministry of Transport.

The project, of which an approximate cost of 51 million 106 thousand 193 liras was calculated, was delivered to Cagil Construction, which was specially invited, for 47 million liras.

According to the contract signed on November 16, construction will take 120 days. Construction, which began on November 18, will be completed on March 18, 2023.

It has been the setting for many Turkish movies such as Fevkani Bridge, Woman Never Forgets and Stranger in the City.

ZONGULDAK MEMORY SPACE

In Zonguldak, the first city established after the proclamation of the Republic, the first zoning plan was drawn up by the architect Asım Kömürcüoğlu. Kömürcüoğlu, one of the architects of the republican era, who with the proclamation of the Republic made the zoning plans for 35 cities, proposed a strategic bridge that extends to the port and the union of the streams that divide the city in two in the Zonguldak zoning plan
The bridge was named Fevkani, which means “over the top”.

The Fevkani Bridge, whose construction was completed in 1956 by the German company MAIG, became Turkey’s first steel viaduct connecting the two sides, providing seamless road and rail transportation. This bridge, which has five legs, provides paths for vehicles and pedestrians in five different directions, passes under the railway tracks, and passes over and under the highway, was also designed as a bridge trade center.

Movies were shot on the bridge, which soon became the center of attraction for Zonguldak, witnessing historic marches and meetings of many professional organizations, unions, and political parties.

Since the day the AKP mayor of Zonguldak announced that it would be demolished on August 15, the people of Zonguldak made many attempts to prevent the bridge from being demolished, but to no avail.
