The ‘accessories’ trap in second-hand sales
Within the framework of the measures adopted by the Ministry of Commerce for the second-hand car market, opportunists write low prices in the advertisements they publish on the Internet, after it is prohibited to advertise vehicles above the selling price recommended by the maker. Opportunists attract people who want to buy a car and then tell them that the price has increased using equipment, accessories and maintenance as an excuse.
NEW METHODS DEVELOPED
Fahri Karlık, who buys and sells second-hand cars in Izmir, said that with the measures, the buying and selling of the cars in question has returned to real dealers. Karlık stated that they are very happy about this: “However, opportunists have developed new methods. As they say ‘Will not exceed dealer price’ due to state imposed law, they write below the desired price and add plus the number of accessories. This is not OK. Friends who are definitely going to buy a vehicle should not fall for such tricks. There is no such thing as accessory money. “We definitely don’t accept it,” he said.
‘PRICES DECREASED BY 20-25 PERCENT PER VEHICLE’
Karlık stated that prices on the second-hand market have decreased: “Actually, now is the perfect time to buy. In fact, prices have fallen. The numbers we call bubbles have disappeared. Now the vehicles have returned to their real figures. They should take advantage of this opportunity because there is no guarantee what the prices will be again tomorrow. Prices per vehicle have returned approximately 20 to 25 percent. That is, a vehicle that cost 1 million cost 800,000 lire. A vehicle that cost 800,000 lira was reduced to 700,000 lira. Therefore, serious declines occur. The bubble in the automobile trade market has disappeared. Now is the time for opportunities. The vehicles returned to their real value. There is no activity at this time. The market is very stagnant. The markets are stagnant due to rising interest rates and the disappearance of hot money in the market, but this is temporary. “Today will happen tomorrow,” he said.
‘OUR SECOND-HAND MARKET IS AT THE STOP POINT’
Aşkın Doğan, who buys and sells cars, said: “Our second-hand market has been completely paralyzed for the last 2 or 3 months. We had dealers who sold between 20 and 25 cars a month. Currently, those numbers have dropped to 6-7. Merchants are going through a very difficult situation. After the pandemic, the price of new vehicles increased and there were no new cars. This time the second hand market became ridiculous when people started demanding second hand goods instead of paying the money and making them wait for 7-8 months. There is such disorder in the market. Now there are also accessory opportunists. It shouldn’t happen. The configuration, model and price of the vehicle are already known. Now I have tires on, no parking sensors, no, I did this, I did that, they are asking exaggerated prices for the chrome. “This is not the real market for this market,” he said. (DHA)
