New car sales increase in the EU in April

Total sales in the European Union (EU) auto market rose 17.2 percent last month, topping 800,000.

The European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) has announced the new vehicle registration data for the EU countries for the month of April.

Consequently, new car sales in EU countries increased by 17.2 percent last month compared to the same period in 2022 and reached 803,188.

In the member countries of the Union, new vehicle registrations increased 17.8 percent in January-April 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 3,454,935.

38.2% of new cars sold in EU countries in April were petrol, 24.8% hybrid, 14.7% diesel, 11.8% fully electric, 7.4% hybrid plug-in cars and 7.4% of new cars sold in EU countries. of them consisted of other fuels.

THE LARGEST INCREASE IS IN ITALY

Car sales among EU countries rose 29.2 percent in Italy, 21.9 percent in France, 12.6 percent in Germany and 8.2 percent in Spain in April compared with with the same period last year.

Among the 27 member countries of the Union, the largest number of new cars was put on the road in Germany in April. During this period, 202,947 new cars were registered in Germany, 132,506 in France, 125,824 in Italy and 74,749 in Spain.

According to manufacturers, the VW Group sold the most new cars in the EU in April, with 220,459.

Stellantis Group trailed VW Group in new vehicle sales in the EU.

The Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, sold a total of 149,786 cars.

The Renault Group ranked third with 91,413 new cars, while the Hyundai Group ranked fourth with 73,248 units. (AA)
